These are the wool combs my father made for me. I showed him some videos on Youtube and he distilled their essence down into these fine hand tools you see above. I have combed quite a number of slivers with them and they work great! They are easy to use yet strong and mighty.
One thing I am still getting used to is reducing the amount of “wasted wool” that is left after the fibers have been combed. That’s a bit of a misnomer, as the leftover bits are all combed together to squeeze out one more sliver, and then those remains are designated for felting, so none of it is actually wasted. Not to mention this is where all of the VM and dirt gets left, so I’d rather have it there than in the combed wool!
